The Asian automotive market has been witnessing rapid growth during the past few years and China specifically represents the next opportunity in the automotive market. According to a survey by Yole Development, nearly 65 per cent of global vehicle sales between now and 2022 will occur in Asia. China, being the major engine driving such growth, is expected to see nearly 45 per cent of worldwide automotive consumption during the same time span. Along with the market growth, the automotive industry is also experiencing an evolutionary technology advancement with customers expecting a vehicle to be safe while at the same time flexible, connected, autonomous and eco-friendly. “With such forthcoming trends in the automotive industry, especially for connected and autonomous driving vehicles, automotive lighting is changing from a traditional operation to a highly sophisticated and connected function”, added Mustafa Yesilgoez, CEO of OSRAM Continental APAC region.
Positioned to be a new player and innovator in the automotive lighting industry to shape the future of mobility lighting, the joint venture started its operations in July 2018. The company is utilizing the increasing digitalization in the automotive industry to produce intelligent lighting solutions completely from one source. With the broad experience of OSRAM and Continental combined and the business liaisons with Asian OEM’s and set makers, OSRAM Continental aims to provide products and solutions which will bring value to the region and particularly to China. In the next step, the company is also planning to expand its Kunshan manufacturing facility to create added value for and from this region.
